Your orientation to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare will consist of self-study materials completed prior to your arrival, a classroom orientation and a department orientation on your first day of work. Expected outcomes include:
- Nursing staff will feel comfortable and knowledgeable in the environment.
- Basic competencies will be validated.
- Regulatory standards will be met.
Our goal is that you will be able to meet the same high standards of behavior and patient care that are expected of our own associates.
Please Note: We encourage you to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers on a desktop or laptop computer as some of these orientation modules are not supported by Internet Explorer and mobile devices.
STEP ONE: CREDENTIALING CHECKLISTBefore working at a Wheaton facility, the Nursing Credentialing Checklist, along with all supporting documents, must be completed by the agency and faxed to the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints Staffing Office at 262-687-5007.
If you have not completed a medication test with your agency, please print and complete this Medication Test. Please bring the completed Medication Test with you to your orientation.

New Associate Orientation Checklist
Please print New Associate General/Department Orientation Checklist and bring it with you to your first shift on the unit.
Agency RN-LPN Orientation Checklist
Please print a copy of the Agency RN-LPN Orientation Checklist. Review all items listed under Self-Study and check them off on the list. This list will be signed and dated after the classroom portion of orientation is completed.
Please print, review and sign the Confidentiality Statement document. Bring it along to the class.
STEP THREE: SELF-STUDY
The online documents listed under Orientation Materials cover key information that you need to know before your first day at a Wheaton facility. The topics correspond to items listed on the RN/LPN Orientation Checklist. Please review each document carefully before checking it off on the Orientation Checklist.
STEP FOUR: ON-SITE DEPARTMENT/FACILITY ORIENTATION (YOUR FIRST WORK SHIFT)
After completing the self-study portions of the online orientation, you may be on the unit for your first shift. Arrive a half hour early. At that time, you will meet unit staff, other interdisciplinary associates, tour the unit, and receive a department specific orientation. For each new unit you are on, you will follow the same process. On your orientation to the unit, you may receive additional clinical competencies specific to that patient care population or area. These will need to be completed in addition to the Orientation Checklist.
- For areas EXCEPT All Saints, the supervisor or charge nurse will fax the completed competencies to WSST Staffing Office at 414-465-3491.
- For All Saints, the competencies will be submitted to the Central Staffing Office. Follow directions from Float Pool Manager.
STEP FIVE: INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE 6-MONTH AND ANNUAL PRECISION PXP GLUCOSE METER EDUCATION AND QUALITY CONTROL
The following education for the Precision PXP Glucose Meter (Education Module) and subsequent competency of completing a QC (Quality Control) must be completed initially by agency staff. If you will be at a legacy Wheaton/Ascension facility for an extended length of time, you must also complete 6-month and annual education and competency for glucose point-of-care testing.

Click on this link Precision PXP Glucose Meter to complete the education module for the glucose meter used at legacy Wheaton acute care facilities and medical group sites. Once you complete the online education, print the Competency Validation Tool and bring this with you to your first shift on the unit. You will be validated on the use of the Glucose Meter by you properly demonstrating:
- Quality Control on the glucometer
- Direct patient test or simulation
- Location of and review of Point of Care Policy
Completion of Precision PXP Glucose Meter education and competency is to be recorded on Orientation Checklist.
